Bridgetown High School was founded in 1954 on the site of the town’s cattle saleyards. Its three-tiered level offers one of the most picturesque school sites in Western Australia, nestled as it is amongst the rolling hills of Bridgetown. The school has students from Years 8 to 10, who come from the town itself, the surrounding farmlands and the timber-milling and mining township of Greenbushes. Students mainly complete their upper secondary schooling at nearby Manjimup Senior High School.

Bridgetown High School is a place where learning is strongly emphasised. There are high expectations that students will use their minds well, will achieve to the best of their ability and will strive for personal excellence. The school sees itself as a community of learners, where staff, students, and parents on occasions, continually model learning and growth.

Learning how to learn, ie the processes of learning, is valued equally with the content of learning. Students are encouraged to become analytical, critical and creative thinkers as much as they are required to learn knowledge. There is an emphasis on the development of Key Competencies - the skills, knowledge and processes that students will need to operate as active and informed citizens of the future.

Students are encouraged to become leaders in the school and to be active participants in the decision making process. Many school policies have been initiated by students from time to time, and such active involvement is exhibited in many ways, not least of all through a dynamic Student Representative Council.

The school has adopted a 'safe environment' policy, with a strong emphasis on non-harassment. Staff, and in some instances students, work to support a caring community and give assistance to students in need.

Responsibility is an attitude that is highly valued - with students encouraged to take responsibility for their learning outcomes, their behaviour and their positive interaction with others. Everyone at Bridgetown High School has a right to learn and a responsibility to value the learning and humanity of others.
